Matalj Winery
Discover the Soul of Eastern Serbia
Just a few hours from Belgrade, nestled in the heart of the historic Negotin wine region, Matalj Winery is where tradition, nature, and craftsmanship come together. Founded in 2008 by the Mladenović Matalj family, the winery was born from a desire to create premium wines rooted in centuries-old winemaking heritage.
Wines That Speak of Place
Matalj’s 27 hectares of vineyards stretch across four distinct micro-locations—Kremenjača, Terasa, Bukovo, and Zemna—each with unique soil compositions and climates that shape the character of the wines. From the sandy-gravel banks along the Danube to the mineral-rich hills above Negotin, the terroir gives life to expressive whites and bold, structured reds. The winery masterfully blends international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc with Serbia’s native grapes like Prokupac, Bagrina, Začinak, Kadarka, and the rare Crna Tamjanika.
Award-Winning Wines & Unforgettable Moments
Since 2017, Matalj has operated from a state-of-the-art winery in Bukovo, featuring a barrel cellar that allows for careful aging of multiple vintages. The flagship wine, Kremen Kamen, is considered a modern icon of Serbian winemaking, while Zemna Reserva was crowned Best Serbian Red Wine in 2023. In 2024, Matalj Winery was recognized as Serbia’s Best Winery.
Guests are invited to visit and enjoy guided tastings, paired with traditional local dishes at the on-site restaurant. Whether you’re a wine enthusiast or simply curious, Matalj Winery offers an authentic and immersive journey into the heart of Serbia’s wine culture—one glass at a time.
